Hello all

On monday my mk2 focus ST got written off - so now I am looking for a replacement for a year or so before I go and get something interesting again.
Insurance has shot up despite being a non fault collision as I am only 20 years old, so looking at something around the 150-180bhp mark.
I only commute 30 miles per day round trip mostly motorway, so ideally looking at a petrol but not totally ruling out diesel. This will reduce to probably a 10-20 mile round trip for a year starting in August.

After something reliable and depreciation resistant as not looking to keep this car longer than I have to, but primarily safe as it is an eye opener even being in a relatively low speed collision
Ideally spec would include auto lights/wipers, cruise control, climate control and/or heated seats and maybe a single din/double din dash slot so I can slide in a head unit I have lying around to add bluetooth streaming as radio is generally cack

Currently I am looking at mazda 3 2.0 petrol (the diesels seem to have massive timing chain issues)
SEAT Exeo 2.0 TDI 140/170
Golf 2.0 TDI mk6 140/170
Octavia mk2 (although these seem bloody pricey for what they are vs golf)

Not really fussed on saloon/hatchback, ideally a compact saloon as a mondeo size car is too big for me and we already have 2 family cars in the household

Any other ideas? Obviously not looking for an ST replacement as insurance is too high on these cars for now. Just something relatively simple with a few creature comforts and a bit of poke

Thanks

What about this weeks shed of the week?

Great engine, should be reliable, possibly flies under the radar of insurance companies and I imagine you could sell it in 12 months to 2 years and easily make your money back if looked after.
