A quick review of my 428i Convertible. One week in and 800 miles later I’m liking it more every day. MPG has been just over 40 using Eco Pro and most of the time spent on the motorway. First impressions are very smooth and quiet although on rough surfaces tyre noise is high this may be down to the 20” wheels, the car is also fitted with BMW M Performance kit. My last 4 cars have all been 3L diesels so 40 mpg is similar. Pro Nav takes a bit of getting the hang of but works well once you work it all out. Upgraded sound system is superb and allows lots of connections from USB and phone etc. The car does feel wide on country lanes but I’m sure its just me getting familiar with the car. The car has BMW connectivity which ends next month is it worth the money and what Infor will I loose. Thanks

Nearly lost me at "mpg"

What's the engine like? I've not driven one. Diesel like delivery or more revvy?

Engine smooth although I haven't been hammering it, feels like plenty of power, it will drop a few gears when you accelerate hard. Very lazy feeling in Eco Pro changes up through the box at very low revs.

Try one of your regular motorway trips in Comfort rather than Eco Poo.
You may be pleasantly surprised!

Done a couple of long runs in Eco Poo in my 440 and Comfort gives significantly better fuel consumption.

Enjoy the car!

EcoPro does absolutely nothing fuel economy wise in either our X3 or M140i when comparing over a full tank. No matter what the little computer says about how much fuel you've saved the final amount is still the same and doesn't go up to the same tune as the EcoPro reckons.

Conversely, on a long, lazy run I tend to get noticeably better mpg in Eco than Comfort.

The 428i Auto is a lovely combination, a great engine and about the best box there is. I had a Coupe from Sytners for a weekend when they were launched and really enjoyed it. They're getting affordable now as well.

3000+ miles and Im enjoying the car. Niggles first. Why doesn't the car revert to your last settings ie Eco Pro or Sport always defaults to comfort. Don't like the Nav split screen prefer full screen except when the a call comes in. is it possible to go from full screen to split screen while on a call without doing it manually ? (always happens when Im in unfamiliar locations). Liking the general drive it feels well planted on the road and comfortable, had the roof down during the warm weather last week and its comfortable at motorway speeds with the windows up, I haven't tried the deflector and probably will never use it. Upgraded the rear exhaust to duel outlet as I prefer the look (used a 440i rear box) Sounds much better.

Comfort is the mode it should start in - others are switchable.

If in Eco Poo, on press forward should bring up Comfort, another press Sport etc.
On mine, as I change mode, I get graphics on the iDrive telling me the mode, and with Sport, the option to change steering and suspension (its non-adaptive)
Mine is 2017 too
My brother has a 2017 3 Touring which is just the same. His is a 330 though.

Just noticed in this dry weather pools of water just in front of the rear wheels. I have checked it and its just water anyone have similar with a convertible. car washed day before and driven 30 miles then parked so you would expect any water to have dried up. Any thoughts

Sorted the water issue a blocked pipe that lets water drain out. Easy fix with a length of wire pushed into the pipe and it drained in a few seconds.

Nice car! Popped in to say that the wind deflector makes a huge difference to roof down enjoyment. Cuts buffeting out completely and makes it far more enjoyable - give it a try (unless you need people in the back of course!)

Will give it a try, I noticed lots of convertibles on the continent use them especially on motorways / autobans.Just doesn't look great.
