Has anyone ever noticed that all adverts for watches always display the time at 10.10 or 10.09?

Go and have a look...once noticed never unseen.

Usually exposes most of the dial features...hence most adds have watch showing that time.

Rolex *generally* set date to 28th and second hand to 31 seconds too. GMT/Cosmograph are exceptions due to extra hand/dials.

Not always so OP.

In adverts for Porsche 911, the time is set at 9:11

Edit. A accept this is a clock and not a watch!

There are a suspicious amount of ads for pre ceramic GMTs that have the II of GMT MASTER Ii obscured by one of the hands, no doubt so you have to call about whether it’s a regular font or not!

I’m sure someone moved their logo but kept the 10:10 - Christopher Ward?

Discussed in a Dave Gorman stand-up routine!

Yes that was very funny, and as he pointed out also the time frequently used in phone adverts where it is displayed digitally when it doesn’t matter at all!

I was at a Rolex AD launch night last year and was told the actual time is set too 10.11 (11min past 10). This was a gentlemen called David, very senior in Rolex UK.

I forgot the reasoning why, I remember is was a foc bubbles night !

Looking at official Rolex images you can indeed thee the minute hand is not at 10 and towards 11 minutes ?

I set the hands at 1.50 (10 to 2), but it takes me so many attempts to get a half decent photo that they normally say half past three : - )

I think Seiko have copyright (?) on displaying watches at 10:08 and 42 seconds in adverts , most aesthetically balanced display for analogue watches . There is a Bond film where he has a Seiko and it shows 10:08 and 42s at a crucial point ( but it's digital so kind of misses the point... ) .

I thought it was supposed to look a bit like a tick to encourage you to buy it because it subconsciously says "yes".

My daughter mentioned this yesterday after picking up one of my watches.

She called it hands at 10-10 but I knew what she meant, anyway according to her it represents a smile and encourages people to buy.

It should be the same in watch shop windows too. I worked for a high street jewellers back in the early 80's and that was one of the daily tasks, to make sure all watch hands were set at 10 past 10. Automatic watches were a nightmare if the crown was pushed in!
