Car change time
Discussion
Yes, it's that time!!!
My little 206 has been a great car for 18 months but I want a change...something a little bigger, size and engine wise, but not prohibitively expensive regarding ins/tax/mpg. Keeping in the sub 1k shed range, I am going to have a look at a 2002 Civic 1.6 se. It's a 5 door model, in blue, 114,000 miles, 3 previous owners, 11 months mot and all for the princely sum of £695. I know Honda's are pretty reliable motors, but I have a few questions...
1) Cam belt or cam chain?
2) Gearbox issues...what should I be listening for?
3) Anything else I should be aware of or look for?
I have checked the mot history of the vehicle, here's what fails came up...
Jan 2019 - Offside Registration plate lamp inoperative in the case of a single lamp or all lamps (4.7.1 (b) (ii))
Offside Headlamp aim too low (4.1.2 (a))
Jan 2018 - Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)
Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt BOTTOM BALL JOINT (2.4.G.2)
Jan 2016 - Nearside Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2)
Offside Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2)
July 2014 - Nearside Rear Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
Offside Rear Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
June 2013 - Nearside Front Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)
Nearside Front Direction indicator incorrect colour (1.4.A.2f)
Offside Front Direction indicator incorrect colour (1.4.A.2f)
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
June 2011 - Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching into the swept area by more than 40mm outside zone 'A' (8.3.1e)
Nearside Headlamp aim too high (1.8)
Offside Headlamp aim too high and too far to the right. (1.8)
Nothing major there to worry about, lights and tyres mostly! This will be my first ever Japanese car as well!
