My mate is looking for an older bike that is retro looking, 900cc or over... he has about £3k to spend...

he quite likes the look of the Yamaha XJR 1300... so that sort of bike

any suggestions what he could look at that has a good reputation for reliability?

Off the top of my head and without looking at prices

Suzuki -
Bandit 1200
Bandit 1250
GSXF 1400

Honda -
CB1300
CB1000F
CB1000R (not quite as retro)

My brother has had 2 or 3 XJR1300 and they've been solid as a rock.

Kawasaki ZRX 1100 /1200, are also solid..

thanks guys...

Looking at early FJR's as he has defined his specification a little more...

got to be air cooled
wants carburettors...

so the FJR fits the bill perfectly, but are there any others he is missing looking at?

Bandit 12 must be the obvious choice?

Aren't FJR's watercooled and fuel injection?

well we drove 240 miles round trip today to go and see an nice XJR... loved the bike, hated the riding position...

footrests too far back and the distance between the seat and the footrest too small. the limitation of dodgy knees and hips... shame.

he did sit on a Triumph America and felt comfortable... so we are off around the bike shops to have a sit on a few different bikes, to find something more comfortable for him.

A GSX1400 would be my choice there. It's a stunning engine, a great looking machine:

If he's lucky, an FZ1-N

edit - just seen he wants something old and wobbly that needs a bit of luck to start on a cold morning.
