Hi.

I’ m sure I’ve seen it mentioned before but does anyone know how heavy a body shell weighs?
It is for future reference as at some stage I would like to do a chassis restoration and have the chance of two 500kg chain hoists.

Would these be man enough for the job?

Thanks, Chris.

I expect they will be ideal.

The whole car only weighs only just over 1,000 kg. When you lift the body, you are not lifting the chassis, engine, gearbox, diff or suspension. You will have removed the seats and the fuel tank.

I would expect no more than 500kg for the body even with the interior in.

Complete engine will be 180kg or so, exhaust will be maybe 40kg all in, gearbox 40kg, chassis probably about 150kg, diff, suspension, running gear, wheels, another 150-200kg. There's more than half a tonne of non-body...

I know that the diff weights 35Kg and the gearbox (LT77) weights 65+Kg. smile
