Hi all,

Moving house soon and looking to get the train to work. I can either cycle the distance to the train station or drive (~2 miles). I've got a feeling driving is the easier option here.

I currently drive a F31 BMW 330D, which I love but will not enjoy doing 2 miles before parking up, nor will I enjoy leaving it at a train station all day. My wife has a Seat Ateca which will become the main car to use.

Therefore, I'm thinking of selling the BMW and getting a small, cheap to run car that I can use at weekends and drive ~2 miles to and from train station.

I want to keep the cost down so that I can bank any surplus from the BMW.

Requirements:

- Cheap to run
- 5 doors
- ISOFIX
- As reliable as possible.

I was thinking something along the lines of a Honda Jazz?

I'm in a similar position once my lease deal ends in November so will be following this.

On another thread I read a wee while back several people mentioned the Focus 1.6 petrol as a reliable thing - engine was Yamaha I believe. Plenty to be had for under £1.5k with sub 100k mileage.

I was much the same. After owning and leasing fast fords, I wanted something completely unremarkable for station duties.

I ended up with a £900 2005 Honda Civic Type S. FSH with fairly decent spec. The turning circle is poor and it isn't the last word in economy but it is utterly dependable. Even my toddler and dog can't break it, try as they might.

I just found a great car on Auto Trader.
