Hi All,

I have a 997 turbo gen 1 with around 100k miles on it. I have only recently purchased it, however it has a strange issue. When accelerating from a low speed it accelerates fine even to above motorway speeds, however when already at motorway speeds when trying to accelerate hard it misfires and accelerates slowly. Secondly the idle fluctuates a bit. Any ideas what the issue might be?

Thanks in advance!

Coil pack issue maybe? Do you know when they were last changed?

I think around 3 years ago. Would that exhibit the symptoms of having power when accelerating From low speeds but not from high speeds?

Faulty coil packs might explain the rough idle (although you don’t say how much the fluctuations are) but I would have thought the engine would display a misfire throughout the rev range.

Anyone else with more technical knowledge have any thoughts?

I'm assuming you are seeing normal boost pressure building when accelerating?
Has anyone plugged in to see if there are any error codes logged?
I would look at coil packs, HT leads, cam or crank sensors, hoses, air filter & injectors in that order

Not had a diagnostics plugged in yet, so do you think it is an electrical issue? any ideas as to why it does exhibit the fault when accelerating from a low speed?

997T 1.5 here, so same engine as yours I think. The idle is rock steady after the first 30 seconds, irrespective of temp. I'd get it checked properly if it were mine.

Had this on my 991.1TTS, my issue was the engine bogging down slightly on acceleration or just hesitation when pulling away, also a slight hunting of the Rev’s on idle tickover.

I had exactly the same issue on my 996 turbo and that is what the issue was.
