On friday I inserted my radar detector power cable into the cigarette lighter socket only for it to collapse/break inside and become detached behind the dash.

This has also resulted in me losing power to my radio and clock.

Any ideas ?

How do I remove this lower section of the dashboard to allow me to have a closer look at the problem ?

Where is the best place to source the female (socket) part of the cigarette lighter ?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

PS,
If someone is local to North Lincs, is good with TVR electrics and has the time to spare I would gladly cover there costs to come and give me a hand as I also need to modify my heater controls and install a relay to enable my Air con to work as I have an Emerald ECU fitted and Joospeed are no more............ such a loss to us all.

You should be able to get yourself into a position in the footwell where you can get your right hand behind that part of the dash. The female part of your ciggy lighter actually is two parts that the outer screws onto the inner bit. What has happened is the outer bit has unscrewed itself and the whole thing has dropped inside the lower dash panel. I would guess that it has shorted the live wire against the outer part which has blown the fuse - probably taking the radio (you listen to that???) with it.

Have a look in the handbook and check which fuse it is and have a look in the boot. I would sort the ciggy lighter out before you replace the fuse though!

If you can get your hand behind the dash from the footwell, locate both bits of the lighter. Hold the inner bit (the bit the element fit into) in position with your left fingers, and screw on the outer bit from behind the dash with your right hand.

It will be a lot easier if you are not built like Geoff Capes and don't have hands like swing shovel buckets. It took me about 10 minutes of swearing!

Feel free to email me if you need me to explain a bit more clearly.

mine did exactly the same when I plugged my radar detector in. I managed to put it back, though it was very fiddly.

Yes Thanks Joo...

I am just not that confident with electrics. Do you know anyone local to me who has an Emerald ECU & the Air Con mod?
