218i CD player cannot read data discs

Hi, I've had my 2018 218i Gran Tourer Sport for three days now and I note that the CD player will not read data discs. It looks at the inserted disc and gives the message "unable to read the format of the inserted media". I have tried various formats including mp3, aac and wma, all of which are compatible according to the handbook. Normal CDs play instantly without a problem. Has anyone else had this problem with a relatively new iDrive CD player?
