Can anyone point me at the long-ish thread we had a while back (last year?) comparing thoughts on different brands of bike jeans please? Have done a search but, well, y'know...

Didn't really want to duplicate it, but if we can't find the old one then maybe we'll have to!

I bought these last year- https://www.roadskin.co.uk/shop/black-paranoid-ful...

Fully lined,heavy denim,showerproof,cheaper than most.

Only downsides are,bit stiff to wear and would be too hot in the summer, although they do lighter versions.Would recommend.

A question for those of you with Rokkertech jeans: do you have to drop them to remove the armour, ie, if you wore them to work all day?

Knox do some jeans which have a sneaky little external zip pocket to remove the armour when you're not riding, which seems a great idea.

I'd prefer single-layer fabric though, for summer comfort, and that leads me back towards the Rokkers.

You can sit around in the armour just fine, I have worn them for 8-14 hours a day on touring holidays, on on and off the bike. Its d30 flexible armour. The knee armour inserts from the bottom but would be difficult if near impossible to get out whilst wearing the jeans. The hip armour could be possible if you undo the waist. To be honest, more hassle than its worth. Its not uncomfortable and you cant tell that much. The Rokker chinos would be even smarter to wear around the office.

Defo go for single layer Rokkertech though, the original Revolutions have a laminated waterproof liner and are a bit warmer/stiffer fabric.

Having had a good poke around today I think I'm leaning towards the Roadskins Easyriders. They look very similar to the Rokker jeans in the pictures, they are single-layer fabric with 40% Aramid woven in, they have a full CE rating (ie actually protective gear) and they're about a third of the price - I don't mind paying for the right thing but struggling to see any significant difference between these?

On the other threads a few people rated Roadskins although I think those were earlier models with dual layers.

They started selling those after I had bought mine (and then leggings), but that is what I would have got if they were available at the time. In fact I probably will buy a pair.

Just had a look at the latest single layer Roadskins, and agree they look promising, might have to try some on. Roadskins have a direct sales model and come from the UK versus Switzerland...I bet they also dont come in a fancy wooden box like the Rokkers either wink

Roadskin state a similar slide time to the Rokkertech around 5 secs ish so should perform similar too.

I guess it will come down to fit and what they feel like in the real world versus the pics.

One thing to bear in mind, because of demand,I had to wait 5 weeks for delivery.

The lady at the end of the phone was extremely helpful and even knocked a few quid off cos of the delay!

Sounds good, I have a couple pairs of bullit lined jeans which suit the cooler weather but have been looking at the single layer jeans.

Er the Rokker armour - I don’t use it in my Rokkertech jeans, I wear them to work on the bike in summer. I just have to balance the risk/convenience. They’re a really nice pair of jeans with a good fit.

I use my Revolutions with armour in though, as I tend not to wear them all day long. As noted, they are warmer. Another thing is that they “swish” when you walk.

I had a pair on hood jeans I actually came off in at 40-50mph

Went through the outer denim but the kevlar and my skin where untouched and I was completely unhurt.

She's very helpful if it's the same woman as last year, the Gosport store is really a distribution centre but they were very helpful. Seem to be doing a lot of business.

They also do military discount if that applies to anyone here.

Yes, I messaged her about size availability and she got back to me quickly. Ordered a pair now, I’ll update once they arrive.

Received the Road Skins now. I've only tried them on, not ridden in them, but they seems like a decent bit of kit. They're single layer although they do have a thin mesh lining, which includes the armour pockets, so not really an option to remove. Armour is that thin flex stiff high goes rock hard when you hit it.

So far quite impressed and happy for the price, I'll see how they are when I use them on the bike.

What's the fit like? Are they similar to normal jeans or baggy like a lot of bike jeans? The benefit of the Rokker ones is that they look a lot like normal jeans in terms of the cut.

The fit is pretty good in an "ordinary jeans" way. That was one of my issues too - I didn't want a pair of textile-trouser-shaped things in a denim colour. OK they're not a Diesel or G-Star fit but they're fine. I might man up and post a pic when I get a chance.

Here you go then. I’m 6’4” and 16 stone. These are a 36 Long and this was taken with the armour in place on the hips and knees.

I guess the only slight concern is how much they give, and what they then look like with the armour out. But so far so good.

Some have said they use external knee armour over jeans - anyone got pics of that? Is it like Mx/enduro armour?
