Started to download this from work to play tonight when I get home.
Anyone had a go on it yet? How does it compare to say PUBG or Black Ops 4?
FYI for those who have not heard of it yet, it is a free to play Battle Royale game available on Xbox One/PS4 made by the same developers as Titanfall.

Just played my first game and my squad won. First impressions then; it's Titanfall multiplayer with Overwatch / R6 Siege style classes. The controls feel great, everything feels solid and weighty.
The map is not huge but with only 20 three man squads on the board it doesn't need to be. Gameplay is fast, I think a round will time out around the 22 minute mark, so quicker than PUBG by miles, on par with Blackout. There's no stupid freerunning stuff but there are grappling hooks and even a portal gun. The map has a lot of verticality built in which is great.
The map design is similar to Blackout with lots of small areas linked together, each with a particular flavour. I haven't had a proper explore yet but it looks nice and sets up some interesting gameplay possibilities.
What could harm the game is the squad system. There's no solo, duo or four man yet. You can tag and ping items and give quick callouts to a team via a radial menu or by clicking on an item or location and that worked alright with the randoms I was just playing with, but three man squads who play together regularly and use voice chat will be very tough to beat in the mid and end game.
The microtransactions seems to follow the Fortnite model, IE, you actually can earn it all or select what you want if you want to purchase something specific, as long as its on sale in the rotating storefront. There are loot boxes with random drops too, they are up front about the loot percentages on what you might drop. It doesn't seem to be as anti-consumer as PUBG.
So as an early look I'm optimistic. It feels like it has the pace and action of Blackout with less emphasis on midgame stealth due to the smaller map and a lot of new abilities thrown in. At the very least, it's free!

Downloaded and played on Xbox last night - been playing pubg for a while now and this, although very different, seems to be so much better - quick loading times, fast matchmaking - textures fully loaded and stuff like being able to tag things etc makes it much better if you're put into a squad where no one talks!
Only had a couple of games but can see me playing it a lot.
Seems to have come from nowhere and free to play is pretty impressive!
Do they just rely on micro transaction things to make money on a game like this??

I only managed three games last night as I'm wrecked with flu, first game was with a friend and a random, the random ran off on his own and died, me and my friend made it to the end only to have my game crash as we engaged the final three enemies. My character locked up and I got wiped out and then the remaining three enemies bumrushed my mate and took the win.
Our second game was a blowout, got into a massive firefight with three or four other squads in the first five minutes and we were wiped out.
For our final game, we got another friend in and had all of us in party chat. We won this game quite easily, confirming my belief that three good players with mics would be very hard to beat. The ping system works well but in the heat of battle it can be hard to keep track of all the pings, if your squad is even using them, it's so much easier when your friends can just call everything out over chat.

Yes,but nice to see origin now have voice comms so chat is pretty easy (if you play through origin)Our second game was a blowout, got into a massive firefight with three or four other squads in the first five minutes and we were wiped out.

Enjoyed a few games yesterday with my son, but tonight getting into a game was just impossible.Anyone else had the same? Or is it just down to the 2 of us sharing crap internet?
Couldnt get the hang of the guns so far, with sci-fi ones you have to learn them from scratch, at least I know what an AKM or M-14 are from other games!

I think the servers were having issues last night, was taking me a while to get into a game and it kicked me out a couple of times due to server connection error.Couldnt get the hang of the guns so far, with sci-fi ones you have to learn them from scratch, at least I know what an AKM or M-14 are from other games!

Thought I'd put an hour in on AL this evening, racked up another win with some randoms. Tight formations, using the landscape effectively, communicating by pings, we took a comfortable victory with a fairly secure endgame after a bit of a bloodbath during the early loot scramble. I took out the previous champion and got the kill leader position too which was nice.
Bloody hell it's easy to get wins compared to solo BR games though, when you can watch tu backs of your squad and cover the approach angles for enemies. Reminds me of all the time I spent playing Blackout solo, blowing some poor bloke's head off with a .50 calibre rifle at 200ms because he was trying to scout a path ahead with no one to watch for threats behind him. And of course, all the countless times I had that done to me!
I do think the throwable items in this game are in need of a review, they feel too weak at the moment. Blast radius and damage are too low and the inability to cook grenades means only total dips
ts get hit by them anyway. Definitely in need of a buff, though I'd be happy for a damage increase to all weapons and items across the board, the TTK is too long in this game.

Fortnite is a free game and made $2.4 billion last year. There's certainly other ways to make money from games than selling them.Do they just rely on micro transaction things to make money on a game like this??
such a good game
the map is really 3d in the fact u can use all of it
the characters all have personality
and it just feels like a event each time u drop
i used to love black out...but now i think of it getting punched in the face in the pre lobby and 0 character input from characters just makes it feel soo wooden now .....plus end games just end with a tree hiding fight
just shows u what can really be done
love it

Gave it 6 hours of my life. Deleted it. Boring gameplay, too cartoony kid like for me and the gun battles just don't do it for me. Pubg still wins that "boom kar98 headshot!!" Feeling. Never had that since coubterstrike days.
Play blackout more due to smoothness though. Personally never like cartoony games.

Downloaded it expecting to delete it after 5 mins like I did with fortnite, ended up playing it for 5 hours straight!
Easy to pick up, only cosmetic items that require payment but I have a decent selection already just from leveling up.
Best part IMO is the ping system, makes playing with a bunch of randoms much better.

Started playing last night. Anyone else REALLY bad? Maybe I'm getting old - not played a FPS in a while, but i used to be a very good COD/CS player - have i just lost my reactions and ability to shoot? People in this game just don't seem to die! (Well other than me
).
stick with your team ...use the ping and help each other
).yes time to kill is long
but is all team team team
i won a match yesterday without a kill hehe

I never hear anyone speak (not that I have a microphone so I don't speak either). Do I have to turn voice chat on? (PS4). yes time to kill is long

Agreed that the time to kill is a bit ridiculous. I think I need to get better at movement in gun battles. I used (years ago) to play a lot of COD on hardcore and CS, where I would typically stop - shoot - kill - move. In this I think I need to be moving at all times or I get killed whilst trying to track.
What guns are the best guns? I unlocked a legendary skin for a Peacekeeper so might start using that.
My best was 3rd in a game where I got killed by the first enemy I encountered!
