I am on my 3rd 4.5 tried every other car going but allways end up back at the best!!

The water guage is mechanical is doing the usual array of manouvers however it appears to have been relpaced at some point as its not the same colour as the rest of the dials.

I have followed the routing of the wire that goes to the sender which has a coil around the full length of it, however it is actually cable tied to a the steel coolant pipe below the drivers side airbox which clearly will get very hot.

I would imagine that this will cause the dial to read varying temps which is what it does infact at idle for more than a few minutes the needle ends up pointing vertically.

Does anyone know if it should be routed in this way my thought was that it should be kept away from direct contact with hot surfaces until it reaches the sender unit.

If its a capillary type, then yes, I should think the capillary tube neds to be kept away frrom hot surfaces. If its electrical, then probably best too, unless you want melted wires

It does overread and yes they are all routed that way. Was chatting to HHC 2 weeks ago when I changed my rad and they said the same thing. Their conclusion was - the route is follows is pants, either move it, wrap it with insulating tape or just accept that the dial will overread. As long as the fans come on does it actually matter what the dial indicates? You know what is normal for your car so anything different will indicate a possible problem.

I though about re-routing mine but then thought ooh, the pub's open.

mine overead by a consistent 12 degrees. I took it off the water rail and tie wrapped it to the top of the nearby chassis rail. Now it reads pretty much spot on with the ECU sensor.
