I'm having serious thoughts about getting a DSLR. The Pana FZ20 is great, but I feel I need to move up to improve picture quality.

Went to the local camera shop and tried both cameras. I picked up the 350d and put it down again. Straight away it felt wrong. I have big hands and the only part of the camera I could hold was the top half of the grip. The Nikon felt much better and I could feel it all over the palm of my hand.

Now - I've got to find the best price!

Looking for the 18-70 kit.
I was offered one at the shop for £749 - plus I get £100 back.
Amazon have them for £709

Is it worth the extra to get it from my local?

Does anybody know what will happen to the prices after the cashback offer finishes at the end of this month?

£679 here

www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_4_409_40905&products_id=99232

Given you can also claim £100 cashback, that makes it £579....

Check the eligability though for the cashback offer.

I've read elsewhere that it's not valid from 7dayshop as it's not a UK website.

Found cameras2u best at £695

Like I said in my original post - hated the feel of the 350 - it's too small for my hand.

Looks like I might be joining the clud!

That's very Sweeney Todd: you just trim their hands down with an axe until they fit what you sell...

I agree with the '350D too small' point. My old man bought a 350D at the weekend, and (while the screen was very nice, pictures sharp etc) it felt like a toy to hold.

IMHO, the D70 is far more tactile and feels like a far better built (and substantial) piece of kit...
