M4s are on my radar big time. Looking at maybe a 2016 model with about 25k on the clock. May or may not be purchased from a BMW Dealer, so not sure what kind of warranty I'd get.

Just wondering how these are holding up in terms of reliability from folks who have owned one?

Are they particularly troublesome to run? Any big ticket items I should watch out for?

They’re not troublesome, no, but I’d be inclined to go with a dealer car or at least one you can extend the factory warranty on.

Only things I can think of are the crank hub - it’s not keyed as standard - which can potentially slip on tuned motors (rare but happens) and turbo oil seals being iffy occasionally on higher mileage cars.

Both of the above are rare as far as I know.

I suppose it’s really just the usual caveat of it being an expensive car if you do need anything. A set of genuine (steel) brakes fitted is around £2.5k at dealer prices, for example.

Crank hub issue is over blown even though it's played down and on the internet things are rarely played down we're talking a handful of cars worldwide, I sold my 90,000 miles M3 in December which I'd had from new for 3 years it had zero issues it was as tight as a drum all the way through.

M3/4 is a strong package however when you buy used you have no idea how it's been looked after and that is important.
