Great driving roads around. You will travel down the B8001, my favorite road, made famous by the Beatles in the song Long and Windy Road.
The surrounding scenery is fantastic, as is the wildlife and culture.
The food here is great. All cooked by my mum. She has won awards and been in the paper. She got Best Hotel In Argyll, The Islands, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs in 2000.
The breakfasts are one of the best parts, not your usual buffet, but a proper full scottish, kippers etc.
There is lots to do nearby, Golf, Walks, Museums, etc.
Check out the website.

oooo, yes. i loved florence too. the walks and the food are amazing. though, when i went it was crammed with people and that made it a bit more mental than it should have been. saw kevein costner though. and from the top of the duomo is absoluetely the best view in the world.
plus, you have to fly into pisa, and although the town of piza is a little crappy, the view from the VERY fecking bent tower is startling. go to all of em, dirt cheap and perfect in every way.
and go now, cos if not im going.

hmm, beautiful walks, beautiful scenery (the view over piazza st marco from the gardens of the villa borghese) the galleries, the churches, st peters, the montgolfier balloon, the food, oh god the food, the women, everything is near perfect. plus its all extremely cheap. perhaps i missed the rip off part somehow? i loved it, so did Hooves.
Another vote for Florence. Stunning place.
But if you want to stay in the UK I'd fly up to Scotland and then hire a car and drive to somewhere near Pitlochry - the area is beautiful and they have the smallest distillary in the Country that does the most gorgeous whisky called Edrador.

That looks nice, we'll be wanting a short break later in the year, August time or Sept, but with the missus being pregnant I don't want to leave the UK. And we like food.

The taxi drivers, the street hawkers, the dirt, the 'tourist' pricing in restaurants and cafes, the attitude of contempt, the tourists!!! Besides, what have The Romans ever done for us?
Florence was just a bit more honest IMO.

I only made it half way up before my legs gave way and I had to edge my way back down with lots of people giving me strange looks... never was any good with heights...
