A3 droning noise

Hello All.
Have owned a 2005 A3 3.2 V6 since December, but noticed today an intermittent droning noise coming from (I think) the back left / exhaust box area. It was noticeable at around 40 mph, but only when under acceleration - if I backed off it seemed to stop.
Any obvious ideas on what might be causing it?

Check your tyres.
Probabaly gone out of shape.
A3'S run aggresive rear camber and eat the inner rear edges of tyres

Have just swapped front and rear tyres and 'think' that it may have solved it. Its on winter tyres at present and they'll be coming off in a few weeks anyway. The rear didn't look too worn or out of shape, but will keep an eye (and ear) on any noises going forward.
