Is there an earth point at the rear of a '99 500?
Discussion
Hi,
reading the SH bible and searching posts on here I'm aware of the two earth points under the heater panel, the one on under the drivers side wheel arch and the one under the radiator at the very front...
Is there a collection of earths wired connected to the chassis anywhere rear of the doors? I assume the black wires from the rear lights join up somewhere under the carpet, but where do they go then?
Regards,
Brian (and a Green 500)

The earth will be at the top left bolt holding the body to the chassis.
If you are not willing to move the tank you could make a new earth point. The small bundle of earth wires come down in the area behind the filler pipe. Find the bundle there and remove the loom tape to confirm all the wires in that bundle are black. you could then cut them there and fit a new heavier gauge wire and take that to another chassis earth point.

The following images may also help?

The next few images are of my car during the LPG conversion some 6 years ago, and show the substantial frame built to mount the LPG tanks safely & directly to the chassis at the four body mounting points.

As you can see its a little more tricky for me to get to those earth wires now, but fortunately the whole tank frame is now a huge earth in itself, in my case the earth wires are effectively attached in four places to the rear of the chassis using the body mounting bolts.
If anything the tank frame stiffens up the rear end of the chassis too
