My best friend has a Mk1 fiesta with a 2.0 Zetec with bike carbs, his latest project is a mk2 Escort 3dr Estate with an ST170 engine with throttle bodies.

He does all the work himself and is a bloody genius TBH.

Cracking job mate . On to a good start I personally think it’s a great idea best way to get to know your car. “Build it yourself “ wink

Wish I had the capabilities, something like this would be brilliantly bonkers

A Corvette engine in an MX-5, can't imagine it would take me long to put it in a farmers field

Nothing too out landish. Swapped the 8v slant 4 for a V8 in my TR7.

And a couple of Series Land Rovers, one originally a petrol the other a diesel. Both now sporting 200Tdi engines and other mods.

Pretty common but I think a K swap in any old Honda works great.

All great swaps particularly like the idea of the mx5. Imagine it would change handling characteristics with the extra weight. Bet it would have a few people scratching there heads at the traffic lights .

I would love to put a Panda 100HP engine in my Panda 4x4.

The other alternative is to supercharge the existing 1.2, but this is a slightly more expensive route (although, I’d like to have the supercharger whine...!)

I've read about a lightened Twingo RS with a tuned F4RT engine out of a Megane RS. It was something like 288bhp and 950kg kerb weight.

My Escort above is 782kg with 461.8bhp at 7300rpm.

Lots of fun!

Yeah, I know. Renaults 2.0 turbo proper name the F4RT and the old 1.2 turbo is a D4FT. So I have a D4FT in my twingo, but I wouldn't mind a F4RT. laugh

Weight ratio, front to back isn't changed much. Someone over the pond did it and removed the Aircon, all the stereo equipment, some unused wiring such as the seat heating system and it came out at 1160kg with 3/4 of a tank of petrol, kerb weight of a standard MK3 is 1110kg

Having done a few myself, I can only say that engine swaps are only interesting when done by someone else, doing your own is a pain in the arse.

Did a few 'like for like' swaps years ago with a mate, fitted a couple of base model 1.2 8v Corsas with bigger engines, one of them had a 1.6 out of an Astra and the other had a 130bhp Cav Sri engine, they were easy as everything for the bigger lumps bolted straight up (and great fun!). The same mate had an Escort that we put a 2.0 Zetec engine into and I had a 1.8 cvh Sierra that got fitted with XR4i running gear, again, all bolt in stuff.
