BMW F30 - Headunit - Idrive - No Signal
Discussion
- Help**
bit of a novice.
I have an F30 BMW 3 series
had it serviced from an Bmw specialist garage recently. However there was an issue with my key as it ran out of battery so the dealer replaced but had trouble registering key but sorted it. He made me bring the spare fob to get make sure no issues.
(Not sure if this is relevant)
Took the car away & noticed my headunit had wiped
out my favourite radio stations on the idrive.
After couple weeks driving my idrive came up
with error “No Signal” and then it would reboot.
Music will continue to play until it reboots.
It reboots every 3 minutes.
The parking sensors/music/screen all stop for few
seconds whilst the reboot happens.
Have no idea what’s wrong & checked everywhere
online but not answers. Appears to be an issue online.
Local bmw specialist says software update might
solve it but don’t want to waste money for half
answers. I would appreciate some facts, advice, tips.
Thanks in advance peeps!

I believe you can do the software update yourself via the BMW website. Go to BMW site, then BMW Hub, put in your VIN, and download updated software to a USB stick. Then upload to car. I believe that is the process.
The self-service update isn't really a software update but a device firmware update to fix compatibility issues with devices. It sounds more like to me potentially the idrive unit could be on the way out. Might also be worth doing a factory reset on the idrive as could be a weird issue with the fact a key has been re-coded but its the same key it already knows about for the idrive personalisation etc.
