A bit OTT?

Now, like many of us, I love to see a well presented classic but sometimes an owner’s obsession with detail goes a bit far even for me. This magazine-featured Escort popped up on a FB group page recently. Lovely car, probably one of the best in the country, but keeping the manufacturer’s stickers on the tyres and making sure they’re all aligned. Really?

Indeed. The hideous beige exposed stone look is so 1970s. The car is a horrid colour too. I think dog do used to be that colour in the 1970s too.

One of the 4 RS2000s I had was this colour.

Had a hot engine.

Was nicked before I'd had it 2 months, December 1991.

As for the OP ,I read the words and it didn't surprise me it was a Ford RS with that level of obsession.

The Ford RSOC is full of weirdos nowadays.

Back in 1989 I had a 1600 Sport with full RS2000 body kit and fishnet Recaro interior in the same fetching shade of Tuscan "prosthetic limb" beige.
It was affectionately known as "the brown bin" due to its myriad of mechanical issues.

Yeah, not a great colour and the cleanest cars usually are awful colours for some reason

I am involved in the RS community from a sideline, I own a MK1 RS which I had restored to within an inch of it's life but I don't get this strange obsession where it has to be sticker perfect

The DVLA website say it's never been MOT'ed. It must be one of those strange only done 10 miles cars. Poor thing.

Was the final facelift for the Escort? In my view it's the worst looking of the Escorts.

Erm ,no.

The Escort continued another 18+ years after the one in the OP.

That's a MK2 RS2000 ,Escort continued to MK6.

The strange thing is, I don't recall ever seeing a new car delivered with stickers on the tyres, so it might be obsessive detail, but it's not a real reflection of how it was.

I think this car is restored and not a never used car.

Could be wrong but that’s what I was told

Does the front height look wrong to anyone else?
There seems to be a lot of air between the top of the front tyre and the wheel arch.

A little, yes, but if its a restoration, its probably got new front springs, and thus if its as seems likely a total trailer queen, its never probably done enough miles on the road for the springs to 'settle'.....

If he's like other obsessive owners I have met, he has a second set of wheels to push the car around and puts those on for show when the car is in place.
