Door Lock Stuck - Can't Open Door!
Discussion
If the door won't open you won't be getting the door card off.
My advice is to take off the door card of the other side and look inside the rectangular holes near the lock (pull off the tape and foam).
Then as Zig says try some stout wire (iron wire for fences is good) and practice how to unlock the door while you can see what you are doing. Then transfer your skills to the locked door - they are a mirror image of each other.

I've had the issue where I wasn't able to unlock the door with the key. I found out that if I put a little outward pressure on the lock barrel with a thin blade of a knife the key would turn and the lock would open. I haven't had the issue with the inside rod not lifting.
I've been looking for new door handles to eliminate the issue. Not ready to plop down loads of cash for the TVR-Parts units.

Thanks for your comments guys. I now have a door that opens again! Yey!
Not really sure what I did though. I removed the trim from the other door to compare, and then pulled back as much trim as I could from the locked door so I could see and access as much as possible of the mechanism.
I decided to apply some leverage with a screwdriver to a particular flange on the lock mechanism. There was a bang and it released itself. Don't think I broke anything. Of course it still won't lock again as it should, but I can live with an unlocked door. Since I've had the car it has never locked until I pushed too hard on the button recently and the problem began!
I will have another look to see if anything looks obviously out of place but the immediate problem is solved - phew!
Thank you again for your comments. At least I can now roar back to the State Inspection workshop for its annual NY inspection.

Also those little plastic clips become brittle and snap - the ones holding the wires together.
They are cheap enough except P+P usually adds a fiver. Grrrr....
