Yes, I know, bloody Tag, blah blah, I don't buy watches to sell so lets please just move on.

I start a new job with Red Bull shortly (yes I'm fking excited and this post is largely just to share that excitement), so as they're sponsored by Tag Heuer, I feel I should get a watch to commemorate the occasion and hopefully the beginning of a long career...

Curious for some suggestions really, I like a chronograph and I'm currently lacking a stainless steel strap in my small collection, so this may be a good avenue, I prefer a more restrained appearance so anything that looks like the wrist equivalent of a Nike basketball shoe I'm not that interested in... Budget around £2k let's say (grey market is fine / nearly new / vintage etc.)

Big fan of these particular 1887s, but then they do feel like I should have just saved up and got an IWC... 43mm is right on the edge of what I'd deem acceptable with a 7" wrist too...

Anything fantastic I've missed? I know there are lots of better options around this budget, but it being a Tag Heuer of some sort has significance unfortunately!

Don’t you want to wait and see if you can get a freebie or discount from the sponsor?

This.

Surely you will get a good discount, or they may even gift you one on commencement?

My standard reply is to recommend my own watch

It might be a little over your budget but not much if you go second hand. This has the caliber 36 which is the El Primero movement and is possibly the best chrono movement ever. It’s a Zenith movement and was selected at a time when Tag were looking to go up market. Depreciation is your friend here.

My super geek/sad extra reason for having it is that the sports chrono clock in my Porsche has a similar face with 60 at the top.

I'd considered possible 'discounts' but I assumed I'm probably not important enough for that hehe

I'll wait and see before buying anything, but was curious for some suggestions smile

A friend has a blue dial calibre 5 day date on stainless steel and it does look lovely in person, much better than I expected.

The monza I'm still not entirely convinced on funny shaped watches (non round tongue out) but I'll look at some wrist shots, thanks for the suggestions thumbup

This wont be a popular suggestion but...….

……..get a Monaco on a steel bracelet.

Massively iconic, super comfy bracelet, and starting to just appreciate a little

Congrats on your appointment to the best team in the grid. Maybe I’ll see you about at some point. biggrin
I bought one of these. It’s pushing your budget but it’s a nice watch. Heuer 01 movement.

rofl

And maybe, just maybe, Christian will boot Geri out, give you a go and drop the keys to a new Aston into your hand in the morning? wink

This is up there with the recent thread where someone was blaming army recruitment problems on the lack of leaving presents when soldiers went back to civvie street!

Assuming you’re NOT Pierre Gasly I think lostkiwi makes a good suggestion. Well done on getting the job - hopefully it will be a fantastic career!

I can confirm that I am not Pierre Gasly hehe

That's an interesting bracelet on that Monaco, would have to try it in person as it does sort of work together!

Hopefully will see you around CG, I'll be working with Ian, Danny and Matt on Epicor so may see you for production related matters smile

See you soon then. I don’t use the system but other guys in my office do so I’ll surely see you at some point.

Good luck with your watch choice. Don’t buy until you get there though. wink

Congratulations on the new job. In terms of a watch, I like none fussy ones hence why I only own 1 chronograph watch and 1 power reserve watch.

A colleague of mine has a relative who works for Red Bull. I aren't sure in what department but he gets a discount with TAG Heuer and is allowed to buy 1 watch a year. I think the discount is around 40% for some watches, so I would definitely wait.

This is my favourite TAG, which is “The James Hunt Limited Edition” of which 500 were supplied with a bracelet, and 500 with a NATO strap! They were released at the Goodwood FoS in 2016, and were all sold at the time!
