I'm pretty sure the game I am trying to remember was on the Commodore Amiga 500. It was essentially a turn based strategic battle game. The battlefield was laid out in hexagons, and different types of units could move and fire over different distances. Movement and firing was all animated and the vehicles had a slightly futuristic look.

Each side also had a base that units could be returned to for repairs. I was never particularly good at it, but I did enjoy playing it, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. Anyone got nay ideas?

There was a family of games clearly built off the same engine I think. Can't recall the name of the futuristic one, but the WW1 one was called "Historyline".

Think Some Grump may have it. I've searched Battle Isle and the image results look familiar.

There was also a game called Full Metal Planete that was a futuristic hex based game, never played it so I don't know if it fits your description about movement and firing being animated.
