Whenever I buy a new car I tend to have a problem getting the seat set correctly. I have to fiddle with the seat for weeks on end before I get it right and feel comfortable.

Is there a cheat-sheet or instruction manual on how to set the seat?

I tend to
Adjust height to most comfortable height.
Adjust wheel height so visibility of dials, and thigh clearance to wheel have a good balance
(If manual) adjust seat reach so that clutch pedal can be fully depressed with left knee still slightly bent.
Adjust seat back rake/steering wheel reach so that, with right shoulder pressed back to seat back, right hand can reach across to 11 o’clock position with wrist resting on wheel with arm straight.
(Adjust forward bolster to give required thigh support. Adjust side bolsters in or out as is comfortable, if these are fitted)
Rinse and repeat all these combinations until satisfied when driven.

This all depends on a car having a wheel that has reach and rake adjust.
For an automatic, simulate a clutch being depressed.

There is another thread on here about an F30 BMW giving some drivers aching backs. I have had an aching in mine, but not recently. I must have found the correct position.
