In these days of remaps and laptop tuning are there any carb specialists out there?

It's a Land Rover V8 - completely standard and I'd just like to get rid of the hesitation on light throttle and get it running right.

Recommendations near Woking/Ascot please?

Are they SU or Stromberg carbs and do you have aftermarket airfilters or complete standard set up?
Electronic or points ignition?

If it's completely standard, and I assume SU's, then there's not much that can be adjusted on them other than basic maintenance settings like float level, dashpot oil, and idle screw mixture. It could be needle and jet wear at very high mileage but again these are easily replaced by yourself.

Has it got a clockwork dizzy with vac advance? You could try disabling vac advance buy disconnecting the vac line (and sealing off the opening to the throttle) to see whether it's caused by timing jitter. If you can reproduce the symptoms while stationary, you can also test that with a plain old timing light.

Check dashpot oil level.
Then
Are they correctly balanced for airflow?
Next
Is the throttle synchronisation correct?

Most likely:
Sounds like one (LH) is opening slightly before RH. The linkage behind the carburettor wears and needs periodic resetting.

PM me and I'll help further.

Thanks folks, it's completely standard with SUs. As a factory car it's still got all the air cleaner and pipework in place.

100SRV - about all I can manage is the dashpot oil and I think you're suggestion is not far off the mark. I'll PM.

I'm not far from SRR and have emailed Vixpy to see if he knows of anyone who could do it.

Try Tom Airey near Alton. Not much he doesn't know about tuning carbs.
