Anyone got a Monimoto tracker for their bike and can offer their opinion of the thing? Need to start parking in a public car park during the day and this seems like a good precaution.

Thanks,

Mark

The tracker you mention relies on GPS. GPS can't detect your bike if it's in a lock up, building ect

Get yourself a mobile phone with Find My Phone capabilities and put it under the seat. keep it on silent and no vibrate

It includes both GPS and cell tower tracking, switching between the two.

I think they look rather good.

I've had one fitted to my motorbike for just over a year. It's most definitely a recovery tool rather than prevention tool. I've had barely any issues with it (1 day it didn't respond as it should daily, so I reconnected manually and has been ok since), 2 false alarms... no other problems.

I've had one about nine months and it's been great. It runs of a single battery just looking/listening using motion sensors. If it detects movement and the fob (keep in your jacket) isn't nearby the first thing it'll do is call your mobile phone. It will also send an alert to the phone app, and when GPS established it'll regularly send the location and tell you if it's moving or stationary.

I haven't had any false alarms that weren't my own doing. It went off today when the bike was getting serviced: I forgot to put it in a temporary sleep mode using the app, then got the call to my phone when I was out testing another bike. The bike was probably being wheeled into the workshop. There is no audible alarm on the bike. Just the phone call and the beep from the app.

It needed new batteries after about 6/7 months which is shorter than I expected but then I did test/play with it a lot when I first got it. Its energy consumption is considerably more when activated.

The monimoto is good at reassuring me that the bike is where I left it and for that alone it's worth the money. I use an alarmed disc lock for prevention.

I hope that helps your decision.

I'm not sure how this sort of device helps. Presumably if a couple of guys turn up and throw your bike into the back of a van, they'll have gone by the time you've checked your phone.

It'll update you regularly for as long as it has a phone signal, GPS and battery. Yes if they whack it in metal storage container it's no good, but many thefts are just moved down some back alley, in someone's garden or garage etc... As such this should show where that is, aiding recovery.

I don't understand how any other sort of tracker would help in that case either? Grabbing a bike and sticking it into a faraday cage is going to stop a signal either way...

Read the thread from a while back about the Triumph with a tracker which was nicked, then decide what your approach will be if it goes, before you spend your money.

Maybe, I've not tried the one in question, but this cheap one easily picks up a signal in a metal garage, costs buttons and works great. You can set it to call /sms / cut the ignition, when the motion detection is triggered, it passes a boundary, started without ignition, power is low / disconnected, mph exceeded etc etc.

They are usually a tenner or so on offer. Hardly infalible, but at that price there's little excuse not to fit one to be honest. At least the police take more of an interest if a tracker is fitted too.

Yes, I read it at the time. As soon as it's moved inside the garage, I'll be called and will check the CCTV / call the plod. Hopefully they will be caught red handed.

It can be thwarted in a number of ways, but for a tenner, I'll take my chances.

Do you not get a GPS position during it's unplanned journey?

I mean, if you have the route up until the point the signal stops, it's obviously still quite useful.

It should do, it was more a reply to suggest that the Monimoto is useless compared to other trackers, which makes no sense as they use the same radio networks.

The only thing that might be useful is having one which broadcasts the locator beacon for the rozzers. If you can get one to take interest of course.

I've order one of those as it looks a bit of fun to play with. Thanks.

Does the iMars provide many features/app like the Monimoto?

I would be interested if anyone had the time to provide an overview of what the iMars GPS tracker offers in terms of functionality - I couldn't find much at all doing a search or reading the manual.

Thanks.

I had a bit of a play with it at the weekend. There's a tracking website and an app with alarms on it. You can set ring fenced areas and it'll alert you on the phone if the area is left or entered.

I haven't put it on the bike yet as it seems to require a reasonable amount of mobile data and the only way to get a chunk on the free payg sim I got would be to buy a recurring bundle which I haven't done yet.

You can just set it up to use SMS only and it'll text you when any event happens with a google maps link, like motion detection, passing a boundary, low / cut power, it's started up etc. Send it an SMS and it'll send it's location.

I think my sim with top up cost a fiver and is still going strong.
