Toy for under 2k

So I recently sold my EVO VI to fund a house purchase, said house comes with a typical modern garage (ie - not big)

I am interested in buying a toy that I can tinker with that can be used for track & weekends. This would have to live in the garage though and the cheaper the better.

I have even considered an MX-5, which is a car that has NEVER been on my radar beforehand.

I just picked up a 2005 MX-5 in black with 41K miles for under 2K , perfect rails, slight arch rust on one rear and a bit of a bubble on one sill, I shall sort that before summer and job's a good 'un. They are out there if you look.
