Went on an unscheduled 300 mile road trip at the weekend & for a change decided to use the gear lever rather than just leave in auto &/or use the paddles. All went well for around 30/40 miles of demanding B roads, the box then refused to change up from 6th on a long straight. Played with the lever & paddles, down to 4th, up to 5th, 6th but the box just didn't seem to be interested in going beyond 6th - nothing happening at all & pretty much like I wasn't asking it to do anything. Knocked the lever back to the right into standard auto & within a couple of seconds it went into 7th, then 8th.

Speed while this happened was about 60/70 mph & there wasn't anything that suggested it shouldn't change up, I've had a good look through the drive select & auto box pages of the manual & there doesn't seem to be anything that suggests this should be happening. No dash warnings at the time or afterward to suggest a fundamental issue, no other misbehaviour at all.

It was a bit of a dash trip & I didn't really have the time or headspace to be messing around figuring what was going on, so the box remained in standard auto after this happened.

Am I missing something or does this sound like a potential problem?

Thanks.

Were you in sport mode? I find I knock mine in to sport without meaning to when using the stick and it uses the whole rev range without changing up.

I tried to get in to 8th in sport mode out of curiosity once and bottled out at 120ish trying to get in to 7th (on a private road).

This doesn't mean you haven't got an issue, just my experience.

I don't *think* so - it was 4:00 in the morning, bucketing down & the stag radar was well & truly on, so was mainly looking up, not down.

Again, not certain, but pretty sure that 7th / 8th was available on earlier straight stretches at similar speeds.
