I have no experience with BMW’s.
Looking for a replacement for our old (2004) Subaru.
Going to be looking at a 2016 330d xdrive touring, tomorrow, from a dealer that sells a lot of BMW’s, though they’re not a main dealer.
Online, in the advert, you can view service history, so just looked. It looks as though it went over 30k miles between an oil change - that’s putting me off a bit. Also states there may not be a service book, as BMW have a data base of their cars service histories.
Can anyone clarify if along with so said data base, should there be a stamped up book & also expected service intervals - surely 30k between oil change is pushing it a bit. We have 10k intervals on our Subaru. Thanks

30k is not right. It's variable but usually between 15-20k.

Can get to 22k. But 30k does sound high.

Condition based servicing. Usually whichever comes first...2 years or up to 22k miles depending on driving style and use forcan oil and filter service.
Brake fluid change at three years then every two years.
If you go on the I drive to my vehicle you can bring up the forthcoming service requirements and might also find the service history.
No service books..all stored on the I drive and by BMW

Agree with above, but always possible that a service wasn't uploaded to service history section of idrive.
Happened to me, with a main dealer.
Get VIN and may be able to phone BMW or take the key along, get it read.

Thanks very much for the information given.
Will still look at the car tomorrow, at least to see if the model is a viable option for us.
Showing my age, when I say there’s nothing like a stamped up service book & a pile of invoices/receipts, compared to checking on a database!
Cheers

Just thought I’d update, following viewing a 330d this morning.
It’s a one owner car, though the dealer couldn’t tell me who the previous owner was, as they can’t access those details on the logbook!
Had a warning light up on the dashboard, as one of the tyres had low pressure - all tyres were different makes & because of the low pressure warning, wouldn’t allow the car to be driven in sport mode, which was just as well really, as the test drive is on a set route of about 1.5/2 miles. The fuel range in the tank had 8 miles left!
Regarding an oil change period of 35k miles, according to the service history, chances are someone changed the oil during that interval ‘I’d imagine ‘.
Unbelievable really, from an establishment that must shift a lot of cars to provide all the hospitality & chat on arrival & nice shiny suits for the countless salesmen strutting around.
I like the idea of a 330d touring though.

I'd guess that it didn't have one of the oil changes logged. Based on my experience, it should have had one in the middle of that 35k period. Also, if you're looking at BMWs of that age, don't forget to check exactly what tyres are fitted. They were designed to have run flats fitted, so if a previous owner has fitted normal tyres you'll need to think about what you'd do in the event of a puncture.

Sounds like an utter shambles to me, avoid. Get one from a BMW dealer with a proper warranty and service history.

Mercedes have the electronic service system with no service book as such, but every service they give you a print out of the service you have just had in addition to the service invoice, along with all the previous services, so each service the list gets longer.

This provides proof also for their Mobilo breakdown assistance.

I would be surprised if BMW didn't provide something similar but maybe they don't.

Quite a few 330 and 335d were leased and can be serviced outside the BMW network.
My 2013 330 had 2x services in 28k miles. The first was at my local independent for a oil change and it was still sold as an AUC.
The second apparently shows as an oil service but fuel filter and microfilter is also needed so it is an expensive one.
one service in 30k is odd in my experience.
My 335d is 2 years old, goes back in April and has never been to BMW for servicing as the booking slots too far away and an independent is 40% cheaper.

I would only buy one where I could validate what had been done at each service, either on the BMW system or with invoices.

Agreed. Seeing you're Kent based, I used to be a while back now. I'm assuming the dealer with world motoring and big in their name. Walk away.

Sounds like you are looking for exactly the car I have. Mine's not for sale.
March 2016 330D Xdrive Touring, currently on 33000 miles.
It had a service at 15k and 28K, it tells me it's due again at 38K.
It's had a set of rear pads, two front tires only, due to a puncture and a set of winter wheels doubling the effective life.
It has mean average of 34.5 mpg over its whole life, but can do 50 mpg with management riding shotgun.
And nothing under warranty.
What's not to like.

That’ll be the one.
Having been there, certainly not a place I’ll be revisiting. Not the kind of car buying experience I’m after - or the car I’m after.
Thanks

There'll be plenty of these about, so if you have doubts on one, move on to the next one.

Its worth noting that if you are considering an automatic one, then ZF recommend gearobx fluid and filter changes every 60,000-80,000 miles. BMW state "fill for life" but what they really mean is "no servicing needed while under our warranty period". Most people will never have it done, many garages will never recommend it.
