Afternoon squires,

Am considering one of these in next two months alongside xc90 D5 sport and cayenne sport diesel for comparison.

Quick questions:

1) Will be buying used approved from dealer, but anything I should be wary of for long term ownership issues?
2) Spoke to dealer today, said I wanted to extend the BMW AUC warranty to 2 years before I make the purchase. He said not possible, only can renew at the end of my first year of ownership and BMW will write to me at that time with an offer to extend - likely to be £1500. Is this true/accurate?

Much appreciated! smile

It has been mentioned on here that people have managed to negotiate a 2 year approved used car warranty. Depending on negotiations this could be included in the agreed price or could be charged at cost which is supposed to be a lot less than if you purchased yourself. The approved used warranty is a lot more thorough than the insured extended warranty that you take out once approved used warranty runs out.

There's plenty of X5's out there so i'd push the dealer if not try another a dealer and see how you fare.

I have a 2017 X5 and covered 21k, no issues to report

Thanks for that. I think the same too - don't mind paying screen price for 2 years warranty and a tank of diesel. Seems fair to me. A friend at BMW said a few years back the cost to them on the warranty for an extra year is about £550. Its just the dealer today said its not 'possible' to add on.

Certainly my favourite car out of my selection. Good image, comfort and performance.

It is possible to negotiate a 2 year AUC warranty at the point of purchase, I did on my 7 series when I bought it last December and very glad I did as the retail cost of a years insured warranty on a 7 is well over £2kpa.

I did too on my current F10 535d.

It’s a shame it cannot be extended to 3 years AUC warranty —- it would be in essence like buying a new car but at used prices

Thanks a lot, I knew it was possible its just whether the dealer will entertain it. Their cost on the warranty seems to be a lot less than what the consumer would pay!

As has already been mentioned, it is possible to extend the AUC warranty to 2 years.

I was offered it by two different dealers when I got my X5. I think the cost against it was about £450 - £500, which is considerably less than a year on the insured warranty offered after.
