The wife and I are considering replacing our two cars (me:Lexus IS250C, her: Mini Cooper 1.5) with a small/medium SUV type thing.

A bit of badge snobbery has me predominantly considering the 3 cars in the title; have also considered the cheaper Qashqai and Sportage and particularly the Mazda CX5 which looks like a bit of a sweet spot for quality vs cost.

Must be petrol.

Anything like Honda CRV / Toyota RAV4 / XC60 probably a bit too big.

Anyone with strong views on any of these vehicles? especially anyone actually running a CX5.

Much appreciated.

My opinion would be the Lexus.

jags are not very reliable, and volvos are not what they used to be and are now chineese.

I have driven a Qashqui, it was the dullest car I have ever driven, it was a hire car, I took it back and got somthing else it was so awful to drive.

I've heard that and it puts me off, but is it really true?

Would you consider a Range Rover Evoque? My dad is on his second and loves them.

If the brands general reliability is anything to go by you might not have a choice.

Lexus would be my choice. Brand new model. My 2007 LS460 is approaching 190,000 miles. Virtually as good as when it left the factory. 100% relaible.

Yes, if I bought one. I'm not going to.

Fair enough! Of the three I'd have the Lexus.

Nope. Nor Audi / Merc.

UX gets mixed reviews, but probably nice place to sit.
Jag has been discounted i think? probably right...
XC40 gets the plaudits. XC60 i drove was very nice. i thought quality was actually up since Geely?

To be honest this is probably my primary consideration, together with overall reliability, followed somewhere by mpg and/or overall running costs.

Jags are no less reliable than anything else in this segment but I couldn't live with the looks, for me it would be the UX or Infiniti QX30 then the XC40.

Mini Countryman Cooper S/All4?

Countrymans seem very popular in Central London.

Dads F Pace 2.0 petrol has been fine, its not broken down yet .... incidentally neither did his Freelander 2.

The E pace is nice, it drives well but i found the brakes quite sharp, rear visibility wasn't great. Out of the 3 it would be between the Lexus and Jag depending on if you preferred driving on sitting in

Your wife is very lucky; I wasn't thinking of spending £40k.
