Found a car I really like at a main dealer and Autotrader has it as "priced low", in fairness it is the lowest price unless I go 6 months older.

Question - what is the likelihood of negotiating more off the cost? Quick chat to the sales person today and they weren't too interested...long drive to get there.

In my experience if you turn up with cash that gets their attention.

You can then negotiate...

Don’t turn up with cash, most main dealers won’t take more than £2k.

Go and see it, ask for discount and expect to be told new, if it’s good enough for you then buy it.

Where i worked the aim was to be priced low, we wouldn't budge on price.

Question is if you went to view it and it was as described would you pay the screen price ?

If it is the lowest price example on AT then it is expected By the dealer to attract a bit of attention

Unless it has been for sale at the lowest price level for some time, I don’t think they will be falling over themselves to reduce it further

If the next one up in price has an angle that you can use, you might have more joy there: look, this one on AT is cheaper and better, let’s do a deal

It’s middle of month so less pressure to hit targets.

I’ve always had good luck phoning towards end of month (or even better quarter!) and making a fair offer - which depends on circumstances and if there’s another almost identical car at a different dealer and to play the two off each other. Ultimately they take my offer or they don’t. I would never drive/travel somewhere before agreeing the price, if I wasn’t prepared to pay what it’s up for.

Thanks, sounds like good advice. I'm in no rush so I'll give it a few weeks or just wait till late-ish March. The car isn't rare so shouldn't be too much bother.

I purchased a car advertised at a main dealer on autotrader a couple of months ago that was “priced low”. I phoned up with an offer, which was accepted if I placed a small deposit that day. Drove a couple of hours, car was as described so we did the deal. I think if they know your a serious buyer and will leave a deposit they are more likely to do a deal. I paid 7.6k and it was up for 8. It was around Christmas time which may have helped but worth a go!
