This year I turn 40 [not sure how I feel about this yet].
I reckon this gives me access to hats a 39 year old wouldn't/shouldn't wear!
If I'm asked what I want for my birthday, I'm going to say a new hat...but the question is what hat?
Being pretty much bald on top, I'm always wearing something on my head, be it a cap in the summer; a beanie in the winter; and a flat cap all year round.
So, what do you think I should request hat-wise?

Don't you mean you're bald on top? How about a Panama, a pukka one from Montechristi? Panama hats

That's what I put
I kind of like the idea of a Panama but not sure my general day to day wear should match?!

I prefer a good sized fedora personally, but a larger trilby occasionally.
A Panama or stiff cloth equivalent is much better for the warmer summer days, and a Panama will generally be cooler than cloth.
It mostly depends on your preferred dress style(s) really.
You definitely want to try a few on before buying.
If going for a fedora or trilby, then avoid wool in favour of a fur felt. It will cost a little more but will generally be much sturdier, hold shape better and last longer.
ETA ^^^ Same applies to Homburg, pork pie or similar ^^^
I have a couple of flat caps, but rarely wear them these days.
Whatever you choose it has to ideally suit your head/face shape and your style.

What? No mention of Tilley hats yet? https://www.tilley.com/uk_en/men/hats/medium-brim....
A recent convert, I now have three. The LT5B lightweight is brilliant for keeping the sun off on hot summer days, and the TTW2 etc-wool hat is brilliant the rest of the time. Check out the specs.
Advantages: They don't come off in the wind. They keep the sun out of your eyes. They float. They have UV protection. They are completely waterproof and snow proof. They are machine washable. They come with free insurance if you lose it. If it wears out they will replace it for free - for life.
Disadvantages: You may find that other Tilley hat wearers recognise a kindred spirit, and will sometimes actually talk to you.
If you do buy one, then take the trouble to follow the fitting guide.

2nd post seems to mention a brand, or have I missed something? Tilley hats are unique, not generic, so I can't recommend them without mentioning the name.
If that's an issue then I apologise to the mods, and either they can remove it, or I'll happily do it if asked. My fault for trying to be helpul I guess.
Edit: A bit hypocritical too. Some of your posts (watches for example) mention brands and models.

I hadn't picked up on the earlier brand mention. My post wasn't about brands not being allowed, but you said "Why no mention of Tilley?', and my reply was (incorrectly) that there hadn't been any brands at all mentione. My bad.
I'm not sure it warranted me being stalked across PH, but I was in the wrong, so fair enough.
