71 911 Turbo ?

Yes, I know they didnt market a turbo 911 until 1975 but found some photos of a white 911 Turbo a neighbour of a mate took me for a spin in back in maybe 1984, It certainly looked the part and went like nothing I had ever been in.
Anyway, I did a quick DVLA check on the reg, an Irish plate prefixed BXI and it came back as a Red Porsche registered Feb 1971, 3300 cc.
Do you think that has been put on an earlier car or could it be an earlier 911 got converted into a 911 Turbo, remember the owner saying he had some tuning work done and the 4 speed changing for a 5 speed.
