40 years old (Saturday) and still competing at the maximum level. I've never really bitten into the celebrity bug/adoration but with my love for biking and growing up watching him compete I feel privileged to have witnessed his time in racing. At this present time he is the G.O.A.T.

He's the same age as my wife.

I know which one I would sooner shag...

The thing is, who would Vale rather shag?

There have been many rumours over the years...

And so what if he was?

Still got the skills and balls on a bike to decimate even the most powerfully built PH Company Directors smile

40 years old and still going strong, just think about it, it is an achievement.

He is not only fighting against much younger and extremely talented riders but also against time, strong mentally but the physical side is not fully under his control.

He is not hurting the sport, on the contrary, he makes it more exciting, he is the household name.

I understand why young crowd slag him off, youth maximalism, he is not their generation and not their hero, and they do not understand what it means to be fighting at the top at that age (but they will find out soon enough what it means being 40 and not anymore 25).

What I do not understand is why older crowd, his age or older, slag him off, basically saying they themselves should step down and let the younger crowd forward because they do not have the minerals anymore to be at the top of whatever they themselves are doing. What a defeatist state of mind!

Go Vale, I hope he wins some grand prix this season!

And he is stinky rich, he could have gone to his own island, snap his fingers and all the photomodels would run and jump on his pecker. Instead he chooses to battle it out with 20-year-olds in a dangerous sport. Respect.

He is MotoGP. Marquez was due to take the rains but rubs a lot of people up the wrong way. Rossi is still mixing it and capable of winning races with people half his age drug free, not many sports could field someone at his age clean and with the desire to be on a level playing field.

It is an odd situation why people have a pop at him for carrying on.

He can still win GP's if the bike is right, can still contend for championships.

Hizzy, Reynolds, Shakey, Joey Dunlop, Steve Webster, Rolf Biland could all win races in their late 30's and early 40's and stay fit enough to be at the top level.

It just takes application

And there is no substitute for experience.

True. Capirossi could have won races in his twilight years if he was on a decent bike. The dedication from Rossi should be applauded for his love and dedication to the series.

To be at the top of his game for the length of time he has and in such a physical sport.
There are not many genuine legends out there but he has to be one of motorsports finest ever.
He gets vast sums of money to ride the best motorbikes in the world .... every bikers dream . And that’s what he is , he loves it.
What’s he going to do? Retire and do track days??!!

Sebastian Loeb can't leave it either, Bayliss is still competing in some form or another, McGuinness still racing, Schumacher came back from retirement (during which he raced bikes!), Alonso, Räikkönen is close to 40, Biaggi still won races aged 41

As long as he is competitive : good on him.

I agree, but from the testing times this year it looks like he might struggle to do well. He era is definitely drawing to a close.

I think this is the second of his current two year deal with Yamaha.

I think sadly his era will probably go now.

being honest if he was able to fully develop a bike (which i dont think he is now) he could still win races, but you can't blame Yamaha for going with Maverick more, he is young, and they have form for doing this (correctly) with Lorenzo, but Vale showed his remarkable resilience to eventually oust him form the team as he started beating him again.

I think Vale struggles for some reason to iron out the issues, I don't know why, maybe Burgess, that old team, maybe the engineeer Furusawa, since he left the program Yam has struggled more.

it is the changing of the guard. He will still podium and hopefully win the odd race.

He does, yes. He runs his flat track ranch too. But as long as he’s given a bike and is still competitive , why not.

Wonder if he will have a season in WSB to go for another world title?

He drives fairly regular with some success too.
