Just had my manifolds welded, new exhaust manifold back and trying to set up the AFR as black soot deposits on the car and drinking the fuel/ running rich. Manifolds on tight.

My throttle bodies are 6% different so should not be an issue
Idle 950 ish
Lambdas OK from the Evo Ollie program

Even adaptive -16 to -18..........Now I cannot adjust the even below this figure as the throttle pot stops (the other way goes to -31)

Odd adaptive -6 to +5 ..............

both adaptives bounce around a lot and have never been completely still

Logged faults: both throttle pots coming up along with the even bank

Any ideas what to do please? Once again driving me insane!
Thanks.

Got a faulty throttle pot? Try disconnecting one as the ECU will use the one to run both banks.

Keep an eye on your welded manifold. I tried that but it didn't last long before it cracked again

How do you know it's running rich? have you had a wideband gauge up the tailpipes?
If the adaptives are running anything less than the plus/minus 37 percent limit then the ecu is clamping the afr to 14.7. The black soot will just be carbon in the exhaust blown out by condensation or whatever, not a sign of rich running necessarily.

If both t-pots show faults then have you changed them? they don't last forever.
Are the lambdas switching violently as they should, or do they meander across the live screen (incorrect)

Thanks fellas.
Engine idling: removal of the EVEN TP nothing happens. Removal of the ODD TP engine stops. I thought removal of either would result in the other taking over. Obviously not the case.

The black soot all over the rear and inside the door edges is a recent thing. Repaired the the manifold cracks, misfire and attempted to realign the idle/ throttle and TPs since first discovering it. It certainly was not there for the first year of driving and something is causing it. Fuel economy is dreadful and still not running smoothly at all. I would love to let someone else repair it but there are no TVR people here. Going around in circles comes to mind!

I don't know how to post the excel spreadsheet analysis or the running synaptic. Will do if I find out.

So is that not a sign that your even throttle pot is faulty? Run it on the odd only, nothing happens, run it on the even only engine stops?
Without the engine running but diagnostics going, do you get good throttle pot readings across the range?

I bought the "new" TPs for sale before the group buy late last year so have 2 spare. I swapped the EVEN TP and the same thing happened. No change when removing the EVEN TP but when I disconnected the ODD side - the engine stalled?? So now the "new" TP is bad also. Jeez frustrated now. I will swap the others in tomorrow and see what happens, I really hope those new TPs are not fubarred as will be well peed off.
Thanks.

As Biker says above, it is really easy to see if the throttle pots are working. Connect up the diagnostics software, turn on the ignition but do not start the car and watch the throttle position displays when you press the accelerator pedal. What do you see?

If it persists in showing as a faulty TPS, it could be the connector or the wiring to that side's TPS at fault.

SORTED - I’m officially a twit!
I thought and thought about it and having tested the wiring to the even TP (all good with power) I thought I’d have a look at the data again. It struck me the even throttle was only 9.2% with the odd at 15% - both too low!!!!
I immediately adjusted both throttles to 18%, turned it on and adjusted the offending even TP down to -2 and “VIOLA.” Then poodled with adjusting the idle/ throttle rod/ TPs and now running sweet as!
Thanks for the help fellas, much appreciated. Once again the great help from others on this forum definitely helped me sort out the issue. Out for a long overdue spin through Fremantle!
Cheers.
