Hi all, I am driving an MG ZR 160 and I need to refresh the Brake Pads ready for my first Hill Climb Season this year.

I want to ensure I get the right set to be road legal whilst operating well from cold for the Hill Climbs. After reading lots of differing advice it seems the most popular suggestion is standard pads for the rear and upgraded for the fronts?

Can anyone support this or add more advice?

I also need advice on what type/make of pads and compounds would be good for Hill Climb cold starts for the fronts??

Thanks for your help. Jamie.

I have used uprated pads by MANY manufacturers over the years on track days & have even (when realising too late that I didn't have any) used OE pads on occasion on track days too.

While many don't really take any warming up to work as well as OE pads from first application any more they don't exceed the performance of OE pads until they are warmed up well enough.

As a hill climb by definition isn't going to even get pads warm, I would stick with OE pads.

Absolutely. The softer the better. You are unlikely to find anything softer than ordinary stock road pads, but you definitely don't want anything harder (unless you are playing games with the brake balance).

Thanks, no not playing with the brake balance at all.

I find DS2500 pads a useful improvement over stock pads with good cold pad bite, better than stock in my case though the original pads may have been glazed. The lighter the car the better the DS2500s seem to work though I think they can get overwhelmed on heavier cars but hill climbs maybe short enough not to cause issues?
