Time for this years first oil change, i'm doing it myself at home.
Now where can i buy either Shell helix, or Mobil one,
any thoughts on a further saving beside labour ?

Move the sofa first & roll up the carpet. This should avoid costly cleaning bills.

I hope this helps.

Make sure you adjust those tappets, they may not sound bad now, but once they're bad enough to be unpleasantly loud, they'll never be truly quiet again. (Unless you replace them)

You'll need a few of those stubby feeler guages, and a special handle, to set them up properly. You cn make them yourself, but they don't last long due to the difficulty of access.

If you wait until the noise starts, you'll only have to drain the oil down again.

While you're in there you can check for broken head studs. (With your anglepoise neckbone)

Dilbert, it only recently had a top end re-build just last year following a broken rocker arm.
As a follow up service, I took the opportunity of have everything adjusted up, the only reason i'm doing the oil change is because I can, and it saves perhaps an hours labour, which pays for most of the oil
(hopefully)
the plug change can go to a specialist though, that was a nightmare the once I tried it.

Mobil 1 (0W-40) is cheapest at Costco (needs membership or a mate with membership). Just under £20 plus VAT for 4L, bargain.

Yeh don't use mobil one! its over priced & not needed for your engine, a decent semi synth like magnatec for example is far far better value & more than suitable.

the Mobil V other brands, rumbles on.
I was only looking about for an alternative to shell's
Helix, and as P 911 world, often run stories on owners cars on Mobil 1 since delivered, was wondering what the fuss was about.
But if a product like say Magnatec, is good enough for older car, i'll try it.

Rich for the sake of a few quid why compromise?

There is the piece of mind, knowing you did the best for your 911 and hopefully it will look after you...they're not just cars you know

CS, have I put this wrongly ?
Have been recomended helix for a year or two, and with its reassuringly expensive tag, assumed it was a good choice, are you saying, you think it is or, have i been on the wrong oil?
