M4 Comp Pack Cab
Discussion
Evening,
Picked this up today. Needed a new car for the odd morning blast, whilst still retaining some room in the back to get the nippers in ocassionally.
As it’s also going to be used for commuting I wanted something relatively modern with warranty and low miles.
Considered all sorts from 997’s to C63’s to Maserati Gran Turismos. But the M4 Cab always came out on top in terms of value and usability - it also happens to be a barrel of laughs. It’s quick! Loud, comfy and to my eyes looks great.
F83 M4 Competition Pack in Azurite Black with Sakhir Orange (dull red) seats. 5000miles from new with loads of toys...
Will get some better pics when I’ve had it more than 7hrs.

Cheers

Not a huge amount of love on this thread, as I suppose its not manual, its convertible and its got turbos... BUT, thought Id drop an update in here anyway.
Have another pic to start with, not the prettiest backdrop and the car is actually really dirty. But why not...

Anyway, this car is bloody brilliant. Stick it in efficient/comfort etc and its a sporty and effortless cruiser - the Mrs and my little girls really like it.
But, drop them off and stick everything up to M mode and its an absolute animal. Although turbo'd its happy swinging round to the red line, you can take 2nd and 3rd round to 7500rpm and hang on for dear life or you can ride a wave of torque and short shift through each gear and take it a bit easier. Either way it can cover ground stupidly fast, it feels solid and planted and is a joy to drive.
Many people go on about how tail happy these things are and dont get me wrong it has enough power to spin the rears in most gears on a damp road, but it's all about that right foot. If you are heavy footed in the most sensitive throttle map (Sport+) then yes the car struggles when the turbos wake up - but if you work with it and only stretch that right ankle when the car is straightened out its an absolute joy to drive. In the dry its a bit easier as the tyres hook up well in anything bar full acceleration in 1st and 2nd, although its proper edge of the seat driving and really rewards.
If this thread comes up for anybody trying to make the decision between the Coupe and Convertible - Id say, if you are even slightly tempted by the convertible then go for it! There isn't a huge amount about the convertible online, apart from the 200kg weight penalty the car carries. This sounds significant AND it is - however, on the public road its negligible, with the added dimension of roof down motoring easily counteracting any fractional acceleration differences.
Happy chap so far, I have done 500miles this week and used about 2 tanks of fuel! Think its working out at about 18mpg - but expecting this to sit up at approx 25mpg when the novelty of blasting it everywhere has waned slightly. Cheers.

Love the looks and the performance, just cant reconcile myself with the sound, unfortunately.
Enjoy!
I heard the same and it was a big concern for me. However, I went and drove a Competition Pack Convertible and the sound is great. Every person who has been in the car has commented on how good it sounds. Enjoy!
From my experience I would say the non Competition pack early cars do sound a bit naff?
Another M4 Comp owner (bought new last Nov) here. Sound is better in later cars, especially Comp Pack. Not as nice as the C63, but still pretty good.I love that cabrio, I would be interested to see what the difference is in driving characteristics to the coupe. I had a 440i cabrio before the M4, and it certainly wasn't as sharp in the handling stakes as the coupe, but didn't really feel a lot slower.
I had a 100 mile test drive in a coupe competition pack a few days before I bought the convertible.
After buying the convertible I would say there is very little difference and I live on rural bumpy roads which would murder the convertible if it were too mushy...
I’m sure if you drove them back to back the coupe would feel more taut as there is no possible way that a car that weighs >250kg more is going to feel “better”.
Although there are some reports that the extra weight and slightly softer ride of the ‘vert makes the car feel more planted...
Give one a go. I’ve been in a couple 40i’s and whilst they have a decent amount of shove and are quick cars in their own right the M3/M4 is on another level to drive.

Great, that must make the car very flexible and worth the weight penalty. Good to hear to are getting some top down use during the unseasonally mild weather, I bet you can't wait for spring/summer!
Yes, plus to be fair it’s cheating nowadays. I drove 20miles home Thursday night with the roof down at 11.30pm at 2.5 degrees in just jeans and a shirt! The car has got:
- Heated Seats
- Heated Steering wheel
- Air Collar (blowers in the headrest for warm neck)
- The normal heater
