Realise there are some older posts on this subject but was hoping for some more recent experience.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy 26 years ago and was fine on medication until last April when I missed some tablets and had a fit - stupid I know but lesson learnt. I can now reapply for my license but filled with dread on how long the DVLA will take to turn this around. There are obviously bad stories but has anyone been in similar position recently and can share how they got on getting their license back

Assume 3 year restricted licence??

So you lost your licence for 12 months? Simply apply before the 12 months and jobs a goodun!!

Ex wife has epilepsy and never used to manage all 3 years but since 2008, the medication worked!!!

good luck

Yes cheers - have reapplied - allowed to 8 weeks before the 12 months is up. Just wondered if it will be months and months before they actually send license back or whether they are pretty speedy. My worry is that they take months. Had a unrestricted license before but guess it will be 3 year one now

It was about six weeks after my O/H applied for her licence back that it arrived, quicker than we expected.

My Mum hadn't driven for over 15 years and got her licence back last November. Took 5 weeks from submission of her paperwork, though the 1st letter she received back advised up to 6 weeks.

Thanks all for the responses - guess there a few horror stories out but a lot that are straight forward too.

I understand that DVLA have got much more efficient recently and can turn things around very quickly, if they can get info they require from other parties quickly.

Also check whether Section 88 of the RTA applies, but IIRC the licence needs to have been surrendered rather than revoked by DVLA.

Cheers Stub. Unfortunately it was taken off me rather than sent back due to some poor advice and general lack of info on DVLA website
