I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that when the engine is ticking over these is a slight grinding noise coming from the gearbox. Once the clutch is depressed the noise goes.

The noise may have always been there, but with my limited mechanical knowledge, what is the views of you guys and is it gonna be expensive to sort out ?

Sounds like the clutch release bearing to me. Mine 'chatters', it's done it for over 20,000 miles ... clutch is still fine. When the clutch goes get the whole shebang replaced, including the pivot arm.

My 500 has done about 18k miles and has made a similar noise almost from new with no problems.

I think it's a case of "they all do that sir"...well most of them anyway!

OK... Mine did this on the 520 and then 24 hours later the clutch died due to a defective release bearing. The bearing had siezed and was using the clutch plate fingers as a bearing...

So do you feel lucky?

Aarrgghhh !!

I'm taking it down to Motorvation to have a low rev judder sorted out. I'll get them to see if the clutch issue it's a problem.

Get under the car and grease up the shaft and thrust bearing thru the inspection plate underneath before it wears away completely.

I'm sure Motorvation will work out which it is ... hopefully just the release bearing (lots of cars get this).

If not console yourself that a TVR clutch change is much less expensive than any equivalent sports cars!

OK not all the cars have the inspection hatch which means that if anything goes wrong the gearbox has to be dropped....

No point in telling you everything is lovydovy and then find a bill for the GDP of Ukraine. Much better to be depressed and then exstatic when that instead of the bill being £5000 it is only £750!

yeah but that's only cos if you drive as many and as fast miles as Steve in TVRs you tend to see just about everything that's likely to go wrong.
