TVR racing - Castel Combe - 30 May

Hi all

The first two rounds of the Dunlop TVR Tuscan Challenge are at Castle Combe on Bank Holiday Monday.

For this meeting the series has combined with the Castle Combe Special GT Championship - which has a variety of cars including Radicals, Porsches, Ferrari and others.

Racing starts at 1pm (qualifying all morning) - the TVRs race at 1.30pm and 5.30pm.

I know there are a number of people coming over from the GT meeting at Thruxton which is on Sunday. Please drop in and say hi in the paddock.

I was going to enter the Z3M coupe in special GT's but then I thought, come on Rod ,be fair let Andy have at least half a chance of a podium, he's worked hard on the car for the last six months and he's up against it already cos it's a 12 lap race, two laps more then they would normally do, so reliability issues could be a factor and the fact that Tuscans only carry enough fuel for only 10 laps no, It would be tooooooooooo!!!! easy for us Mature, smooth, reliable, extreamly quick and talented drivers, time to let the stuntmen play while us "Stars" take a break, we might come and watch though

Remind us again of your lap times Rodders @ Donnington recently compared to an average Tuscaneer from 2003/4 seasons at the same circuit.

Uncle Rodney knows that a working Tuscan will whip his Bread van around any circuit. Comfortably

But it’s the ‘working’ bit that he has a point with. My car has not turned a wheel since young Mr Keen put the front end into Mr Mason and the back end into a tyre wall at Brands last year. It has had a lot of work on it – including having the dash out, the o/s/r suspension rebuilt and different dampers all round. The rear end is all new and the weight distribution has changed. Finally it has a new engine which has not even run yet. So the first time I will drive it will be in qualifying.

Quite frankly I’d be amazed if we didn’t have a few problems on the day. Hopefully not serious – but the set up could be all over the place…

I’m a bit daft not testing beforehand – but I simply haven’t got the time.

Still, it’ll be a laugh
