My 2002 A3 8L failed its MOT today as both front wheel brakes are binding, on the drives side they couldnt rotate wheel other side only a bit. Car was fine before today, the only thing I did do was get it washed yesterday and I remeber him jet washing the wheels alot so it seems after that this has come on. They cant look at car till Weds but you recon jet wash could of killed the caliper beyond repair ? I drove the car slowly to see if it would clear it but it didnt, I could smell the drivers side brake and feel the heat. I want to keep the car but only if its economical to fix, Ive had it 15 years the plan was to keep it till not worth fixing. If it needs new calipers they appear to be approx £125 a piece plus London labour on top so probably £400-£460 all in, car cant be worth more than £1k if fixed.

Thanks

I suppose it’s possible. Water could of got to one or both of your slider pins and washed the grease off and caused them to seize. Or it could be a split piston seal. Hopefully it’s just a seized pin. But if it is i would suspect you’d need new front pads too as they're binding and wearing out quick.

Luckily it was just the sliders hours labour and now MOT'd for another year woohoo. I needed a bit of luck after having to payout £540 at the dentist today already.

Well my luck didn't last long, the drivers side started binding again this morning, so getting a new calliper.
