V8/V12 Twin Plate clutch release bearing spacer
Discussion
Might be a bit of strange question but looking at twin plate clutch kits for the V8 Vantage. I see that the clutch and release bearings are OEM Aston V12 items and the flywheel and spacer are 'bespoke'.
With the spacer it looks like it's an OEM V8 Vantage unit that's machined down to bring the total height of the V12 bearing and machined spacer to the same height as the original V8 bearing and spacer?
If this is correct, does anyone know now much has been machined off the spacer for use with the V12 bearing and clutch? What's the finished height of the new spacer?
A picture stolen from another fourm. Left is OE V8, right is V12 with custom machined spacer

Thanks

Just in case it might be relevant to your circumstances, there was a post some time ago (sorry I don't have a link), explaining that something which was part of a casting (bell housing possibly) had been changed by AML and created an unexpected complication when a twin plate was being fitted. Think that was something to do with a spacer. The car owner was / is in Australia, or New Zealand.

I might be wrong, but thought the spacer is fitted on every V8V up to (about) 2014, because the original intention to fit the twin plate was abandoned just before production began.
Therefore if the aftermarket twin-plate is fitted, presumably no spacer is required, because it reverts to what the torque tube was originally designed for. I have not heard before about replacing the OEM spacer, with one of a different size.
If a post (about) 2014 single plate clutch V8V is involved, with the redesigned torque tube (ie. no spacer needed), I think a part exchange torque tube becomes involved, when fitting a twin-plate clutch.
BR have a video on this subject.
Here is a link to Seakingsam´s original post on this from May 2017 (sadly Mike Beake´s further explanation on this seems to be no longer present):

Indeed Seakingsam´s post mentions a "smaller BR spacer" that seems to be fitted on early cars when converting to the twin plate-clutch. But no dimension other than the original spacer´s 20 mm width is quoted.

Is this explanation of any help?
