ordinary classic values - haven't moved much have they?
Discussion
Hi,
It seems to me that the "ordinary" classics that are the lower rung of classic ownership - Midgets, MGBs, Spitfires etc don't seem to have moved much over the last decade or so? Certainly not when compared to younger cars and less common / more desirable cars of the 60s and 70s. Am I right?
Thanks

I've noticed a real shift in Jap market lately, my MX5 being the biggest gainer in value by percentage over the last few years. However, the insurance has valued the Stagea at price well over what I paid for it in 2017 as well.
I think it a lot of the shifts are drifters killing cars which I'm not going to complain about.

In the late 80s boom the cars you mentioned went up but for some reason they haven't this time although Stags have seen a sharp increase in the last year.It seems to me that the "ordinary" classics that are the lower rung of classic ownership - Midgets, MGBs, Spitfires etc don't seem to have moved much over the last decade or so? Are MGBs seen as an old man's car?
To a certain degree no they have not, anything where there are loads of them around don't seem to shift upwards much, rarity makes a lot of difference....eg Marina coupe, quite run of the mill in the day but they have increased, so few around.
I do think MGB Roadsters chrome bumper cars and have crept up, bucking the trend
Over the last few years, MGB V8's have pretty much doubled in price from around £12K to £24K or more. Same with MGC's, decent CGT's now around £20K and roadsters £30k ish.
A reasonable condition BGT a few years back was £5-6K, now about £10K and a half decent roadster was £7-9K , now £12-15K and a good car going for nearer £20K.
Rubber bumper cars also creeping up with a good roadster around £7-8K.
