Extended warranty my arse
Discussion
Just discovered my M12 has a cracked manifold (thought they'd have spotted it at the 12k service 3 weeks ago but no, nor did they spot the worn bushells).
Anyway, my 'full-cover warranty' covers none of this.
Utter waste of money.
Can anyone recommend a decent warranty agent?
Christ this car's getting expensive - 6 weeks ownership, £2500 in repairs. If I didn't love it so much...

Sorry to hear of your woes, but presumably they clearly stated that manifolds were not covered in the cover schedule that you signed up to? Never has the statement "read what you sign, before you sign" been truer than in extended warranties.
I don't actually know of a "decent" warranty to be honest that would cover everything, as it would need to be priced in the £2k+ a year I'd imagine given the actuarial risk profile. All extended warranties seem to have significant exclusions, but the key thing is to ensure that if they refuse you cover, that you get them to put that in writing, including the clause(s) that they are invoking. You can then take a measured view if you agree with that and either complain to the dealer (who sold you the cover?), the warranty company, or the FSA (who regulate it).

No doubt the small print includes a get-out for the manifolds. Would you expect a warranty buyer to be especially looking at cover for the manifolds when taking out the cover? There are so many things that can go wrong, you tend to check what the warranty DOES cover rather than what it excludes. If the major parts are covered, that's about as much comfort as you can expect. On average, it is cheaper to pay as you go rather than buy a warranty. Obvious fact otherwise warranty companies wouldn't make profits. Trouble is, no-one knows whether their car will need above average repairs. The only sure thing is that you part with a premium. Whether it is cost-effective for any particular individualy will remain to be seen.
Quote from when insurance was first devised (Elizabethan Act 1602) "better the load is borne on the shoulders of many men than be the undoing of any one amongst their number"
, ie some you win - some you lose, but at least you live to fight another day.I need new manifolds as well, and i have also been looking at all the warrenty companies - not one of them cover parts like manifolds!! So I dont think, yours is a bad one, just the same as all the others!!
As a side note, Matt Faulkes is getting some cast manifolds made for me, so at least the problem wont occur again.

How much is he charging for the manifolds? I am thinking of going the whole hog on exhaust system, manifold included (exhaust I assume your discussing) as I am so completly unimpressed with the std item - not only has had a fine tuning tool applied to it to make it fit but has had to be welded in no less the four places for varing reasons and has only had 8 thousand miles use - total utter crap - the std item... (Nothing wrong with much else IMHO).
