So i'm over my initial fears & have now taken the new bike out (in awe of how good she is), but realised i'd got very used to Speed Camera alerts in the cars, so have invested in a TomTom Rider 550 Premium Pack to be used for Navigation & Camera alerts etc (link to the kit & fixings below). Question is, do any owners who have similar advise on a suitable fitting method & location? Unit doesn't arrive until later today & no rush to fit, but ideally would like a semi permanent location with the ability to remove easily to avoid it getting pinched.

https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/sat-nav/motorcycle-sa...

Also i'm aware storage under the rear seat is minimal at best with the battery charger fixings & tool kit etc. so am after some ideas of where to store the obvious paraphernalia when out & about such as phone, charger & wallet etc.? Leathers do have inside pockets, but given their form it's a little uncomfortable having these items in there & no room under the seat. Thought about a small form tank bag as don't fancy riding around with a small rucksack, although not tried that so perhaps that's the solution?

Thanks in advance.

I can easily store wallet and phone under the rear seat cowl. For anythig bigger a Hepco Becker plate and a tail bag. Honda do a diddy tank bag that goes on the tank.

Sat nav I have mounted on RAM stem mount in the steering stem. I take it with me if I leave the bike.

Thanks, that's exactly the info i was looking for.

As regards the SatNav, my kit comes with RAM fixings, however i guess the Stem Mount is an extra item that the RAM fixings attach to? Have you hard wired the mount for power or run your device on battery only?

That Hepco plate looks really good, but it would be a while before i'm likely to tour, so just a small carrier/bag i'm after. Never used to be a problem when i sued to ride, but i seem to recall i often wore a jacket over my one piece leathers, however i guess things move on & i found out with just leathers last week i was plenty warm enough, so don't want an extra jacket just to offer up some pockets. I guess i could remove the tool kit as that would free up some space, but again not sure i want my phone rattling around under the seat.

Will look for the Honda diddy tank bag.

Thanks again.

Agreed. The bum bag may not look great but it's very practical.

Hi

This is the stem mount I used.

https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...

It is hardwired onto the bike with the garmin cable. I used the same thing on my NS with an extension which you don't need with the CBR.

The tank bag thing looks like this

Edit to add, this is the sportrack

Massive thankssmile

Unfortunately this leads to more questions?

Searching suggests for the Fireblade i need the Stem Mount HD (even RAM-Mount state this), but it comes in 3 different sizes (13mm, 15mm & 19mm), however i can't find he correct size. It appears in your photo & link (thanks again) that you've gone for the 'regular' RAM Stem mount, so would this 100% fit a 2018 Blade.

Is it easy to hard wire the SatNav or is this an Auto Electrician job? The kit does come with the wiring loom but i've no idea how to locate this or how to wire it in?

The Bag link, is that purely for the fixing plate & an applicable Bag would need purchasing too?

The Honda one looks spot on size wise but a bit ungainly in the looks dept & not sure i could carry off wearing a bum bag/fanny pack at my agesmilesmile

The stem mount is universal size, you cut it to suit your bike. The conical shaped thing is rubber which is squeezed top and bottom to fit the stem hole.

Electrics for the sat nav are a cinch. You remove the seat and tank shroud, then route the cable within the rubber sheath that surrounds the airbox.

Why not get another card and leave it permanently in one of the zip pockets? I got a Monzo card just for the bike. That and one house/garage key is probably all you need most days.

For other stuff, have a look at a Kriega US-5. It's a great size (5= 5 litres) and suits a fireblade. Straps over the pillion/cowl. At a push I can get a set of rolled up waterproofs (both jacket and trousers) into mine. If I leave the trousers out there's room for an Abus alarmed disc lock and a cloth for cleaning flies off the visor. Leave the jacket out as well and there's enough room for overnight essentials like a USB battery pack, toothbrush, undies etc alongside the disclock. And there's a zip pocket - might be a good place for your phone if you don't want it in your leathers. All waterproof. One of my best purchases for the bike. Five litres is all you need unless you're bringing lunch, another visor, evening clothes. Leave under the cowl for tools, puncture kits.

Thinking about the phone: it sounds like you have your mind made up on the Tom Tom but do you know if the phone app version does the speed/camera alerts that you want? If it does you could purchase a Quad Lock to mount your phone. More compact than other mounts and you won't notice it when it's not in use. Works really well.

I often use a bum bag when going on tour in Europe. I go for the 'German' look

Jokes aside ignoring a tail pack just purely short rides I use this. Can get my phone which links to my sena and tells me about cameras, has a great Google maps and there's enough storage for other bits in there too... Almost like a bum bag on your bike

Having investigated, it appears this won't fit my bike (RAM Mount even state this) as the diameter available is up to 20mm & then 28mm, but the diameter of the stem hole on my bike is 24.5mm. Have found a RAM Mount dealer (Telferizer) who make a stem mount specifically for my model year Blade that fits perfectly so this is now on order & will arrive tomorrow (very helpful Company).

For the hard wiring i think i'll find an Auto Electrician, as even the videos appear complicated & being brand new i really don't want to start hacking at bodywork & wiring so will let someone who knows what they're doing sort that, but for the time being only covering a few hours on the bike, i should be fine on battery only.

Another question has popped up though & that's around headsets to use with the TomTom Rider 500 & thus provide audible alerts but also access to voice commands for communication & even Music (not sure that's advisable though). Would a pair of BlueTooth earbuds such as these work?:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beats-Powerbeats2-Wireles...

or these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bose-SoundSport-Bluetooth...

Not sure i'm keen yet to go for a full headset comms system as won't be carrying a pillion or doing group rides & not keen to start butchering my helmet, so would be used purely for the Navigation & comms via that etc.

Thanks, i'll take a look at the Kreiga US-5.

As regards the Navigation, i do have quad lock mounts for my pedal cycles & a quad lock case for my iPhone XS, but i've always found even on the pushbikes that a proprietary device performs better, so i use a Garmin Edge 1000 on those as incorporates a bike computer & navigation. The TomTom Rider is setup for a motorcycle in a way my iPhone's navigation tools never would be, plus their updates appear the most current & also seamless integration for speed cameras etc. Lastly the Rider 550 fully integrates with the iPhone so i get all requirements covered in the one device & can leave my iPhone out of sight & away from the elements.

ear buds work

i used this set up for ages, https://www.ultimateear.com/products/soundear-moto...

now use sena system for shoei gt air

volume on tom tom can be quite loud so i don't always use/need sena anyway especially at low speed

Thanks, have ordered the specific one for my bike from there & it should arrive today. Really helpful chap & a pleasure to do business with (makes a change).

Also ordered the Kriega US-5 DryBag which should arrive early next week, so all bases nearly covered. Just need to figure out if one of my existing BlueTooth Wireless earbud sets will work on the Bike & with the TomTom as well as being comfortable enough under my helmet & i'm good to gosmile

I cant see much advantage to a sat nav on a bike over a decently mounted phone, which is easy to remove and its navigation/ability to search is better than any sat nav ive used in a car. Speed alerts etc are all there to.

After recommendation here I use an ultimate addons case for my phone, been totally waterproof, the RAM mount for the Firestorm and BMW cost under £10 each , it costs around that for a USB power lead , though the BM was an official accessory and cost around £40.
