Heater controls are dead.

I have never reeally checked to see if the heater controls on my car ever really worked, but after fiddling with them when the ignition is on and the engine off I have discovered that the hot/cold one does not make a noise. I assume this is the valve near the battery. Any ideahow I can check to see if it's the motor and where I can get another one?

I can't answer your question but I had a similar thing but it turned out to be quite a job. What can happen is the valve thingy gets stuck and then burns the motor out as it tries to move it. Unfortunately for me when this happened it fried the heating ECU. I didn't tackle any of it and it was an expensive fix. I hope your situation is simply the motor but this info' might help if a new motor doesn't fix it.

Hmmm... that's quite helpful actually. I haven't used it too much, so I'll disconnect the actuating arm, then move the valve incase it's stuck. Maybe it's just the valve.

You will find on early precat griffs that the heater control motor and gearbox is a terribly cheap and naff design! Basically its movement is limited by two limit switches with the whole assembly screwed onto an aluminium plate. What usually happens is that one of these microswitches breaks and the motor gearbox drives over its limit and strips the teeth in the gearbox.
