I've been considering one of these for home workshop use - the circa 400Nm version for around £200 with the 2 x 4ma batteries

Never seen one in the flesh - has anyone bought one and what do you think of it?

Cheers

Hi Lotobear,

I have the 430Nm impact wrench, The one you are talking about. It’s a decent wrench and very light in terms of the bigger units (De Walt & Milwaukee etc). It does undo most bolts except hub nuts and occasionally some wheel nuts and rusty calliper retainer bolts. I’ve owned mine for over 2 years now and overall I’m happy with it and their service. If you are willing to spend an extra £40 or £50 I would definitely think about the 700nm version though just for a little added power.

I got one just after Christmas on one of Machine Mart's VAT free days and I must say I'm super happy with it. Its a great bit of kit. I'll only be using it for wheel nuts and as I'm always changing wheels over it does the job perfectly. My main concern was that it should be light weight and have enough power for the job I want it to do, which it does. I also have an expensive Snap-On impact wrench which is more than man enough to do almost any job but its just too heavy and cumbersome. I would certainly recommend it especially as it comes with 2 batteries, charger, and 3 impact sockets all in a nice tough case.

I'm sure it will be fine for home workshop use. I have the 1050 nm Makita, it's a beast, but there are times when it's too big, but I bought it to undo and tighten tractor wheel nuts so need the power. If 400nm is enough for what you need then going bigger might not be that helpfull.

Thanks chaps - the 700Nm version is only around £30 more via SGS so I'll probably go for that.

Cheers for the comments.

I have one.
Very happy with it, takes my land rover defender wheel nuts off no problem.
Undid a bottom ball joint nut after a little heat and plusgas as well.

Probably may get shot for this, resurrecting a thread, but I'm in the market for an Impact Wrench at about £200. The Kielder and Clarke ones are in this price range, but people I've asked haven't spoke highly of the reliability of the Kielders.

So, seeing as most of this is was in 2019, how have the Kielders stood up for you all in that time?

My Kielder is still working fine, I did break the charger after a couple of years though - battery however still fine and lasts forever.

I don't know if this thread and the subsequent re-birth of it were triggered by seing the Kielder tools on Project Binky but if they weren't then I'd have a look for that channel on YouTube. They use Kielder tools (and in the more recent editions they've been sponsored by them too) but it seems that they rate them and they look to be pretty decent.
Warning, if you aren't familiar with Project Binky then be prepared to spend several days catching up with their channel!

Not sure about the birth, but I've seen them being used on Project Binky. That's why I've considered them. But I also know they're in some sort of sponsorship deal with Kielder, so I can't put too much trust in their use on the channel.

You can get the Dewalt 899 with 2x 5ah batteries for £290 delivered. 950Nm with 1625Nm of breakaway torque, whatever that is.

I've just ordered one, they are very highly rated.

I have a Ryobi 400nm impact wrench. Had for a few years. Never failed to undo anything. About £150 including 18v 2.0a battery and charger.

I ended up buying the 700Nm Kielder one around 4 months ago when Demon Tweaks had a deal on for £200 - single battery but, really, that's all you need.

I've been extremely impressed, excellent power and the battery is still on it's first charge! The batteries are made by Samsung.

An excellent bit of kit - feels really well made but relatively light and quite compact. I'm stripping down a 53 year old car that has never been apart and its dealt with everything without fuss.

I've got the Clarke 450nm and sometimes it struggles with wheel bolts, couldn't move half the bolts when I replaced all my suspension either, I'm gonna get the big DeWalt and keep the Clarke for places that won't fit

My Kielder impact wrench is starting to struggle these days. Seems like it overheats quickly and stops working.

I’ve just been looking on their site to see what the specs are for different models, weighing them up against the dewalt models.
I noticed they have a fixed fee repair service for their products; that might be worth a look?
